Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using MapMage ("the Service"), operated by RPGScience, a trading name of the developer ("we," "us," or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you must have the consent of a parent or guardian to agree to these terms and use the Service.

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

2. Description of Service

MapMage is a web-based fantasy map generation tool that allows users to create, customise, edit, and export procedurally generated maps for personal projects and, depending on your account tier, commercial products.

3. User Accounts

Some features require account registration. When creating an account, you agree to:

• Provide accurate and complete information
• Maintain the security of your account credentials
• Accept responsibility for all activities under your account
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorised access

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. Subscription Plans and Payments

MapMage offers free (Guest, Explorer) and paid (Archmage) plans. The Archmage plan may be purchased as a recurring subscription or as a one-off lifetime payment. For paid plans:

• Subscription fees are billed in advance on a recurring basis. You may cancel at any time; access continues until the end of the billing period.
• Lifetime payments are billed once and grant access to the Archmage tier for the lifetime of the Service.
• Refunds are provided at our discretion.
• We reserve the right to modify pricing for new purchases or subscriptions with reasonable notice.

Free and paid plans include limits on saved worlds, and may apply other restrictions such as watermarks, as set out on our Pricing page. We may change these limits with reasonable notice. Even where map exports are described as "unlimited", we may apply reasonable rate limits to protect the Service from abuse or excessive automated use.

A Lifetime Archmage purchase grants access to the current generation of MapMage (the "Service") for as long as the Service continues to operate. A future successor product or substantial new product offering may require a separate purchase. We will give Lifetime Archmage holders reasonable notice before any such transition and any preferential terms will be at our discretion.

5. Intellectual Property and Content Rights

5.1 Platform Ownership

The MapMage platform, including its code, algorithms, visual styles, and procedural generation systems, is the exclusive property of RPGScience.

5.2 Generated Maps

All maps procedurally generated by MapMage remain the intellectual property of RPGScience. Multiple users may generate identical or similar maps, and no user has exclusive rights to any procedurally generated content.

5.3 Your Licence to Use Maps

How you can use your generated maps depends on your account tier.

Standard Licence (Personal Use Only)

If you are on a free plan (Guest, Explorer), we grant you a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use your generated maps strictly for personal, non-commercial purposes. This includes private tabletop games, personal hobbies, and non-monetised homebrew campaigns.

Maps exported under the Guest and Explorer tiers include a MapMage watermark on image exports. Watermark removal, SVG and JSON exports, ultra hi-res exports, VTT exports beyond any free trial allowance, and other features are available on a paid Archmage plan, as set out on our Pricing page.

Archmage Licence (Limited Commercial Use)

If you have an active paid Archmage subscription or a Lifetime Archmage purchase, we grant you a licence to use your generated maps commercially, provided the maps are incorporated into a larger original creative project. This includes tabletop RPG adventures, modules, books, novels, and video games where the map supports a broader work.

Strictly Prohibited Uses (All Users)

Under no circumstances, regardless of your account tier, may you sell, resell, license, or distribute the maps as standalone digital or physical assets. This means you cannot:

• Sell them as individual files, map packs, stock art collections, or NFTs.
• Compile and sell them as "low-content" products, such as PDFs, atlases, or books where the maps themselves constitute the primary value or majority of the content (e.g., a PDF containing 50 pages of maps with little to no accompanying original written story or adventure content). Formatting a collection of maps into a book, PDF, or similar document does not exempt it from this restriction.

If you wish to sell or distribute maps as standalone digital or physical assets, including map packs, atlases, stock art collections, or similar products, please contact us about a Publisher Licence. A Publisher Licence is a separate annual agreement that grants commercial standalone-resale rights, subject to additional terms.

Attribution is appreciated but not required.

5.4 User Modifications

If you edit or modify a generated map (adding settlements, renaming features, adjusting terrain, etc.), you retain rights to your specific modifications. However, the underlying generated map remains our property, and your modified version is considered a derivative work.

5.5 Our Right to Use Content

You grant RPGScience a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, display, reproduce, and distribute any maps generated or modified through MapMage for any purpose, including marketing, promotional materials, galleries, documentation, and service improvement. This licence cannot be revoked, even if you delete your account or the maps.

6. Acceptable Use

MapMage is an interactive web application designed to be used through a web browser with a mouse, keyboard or touchscreen. The Service is not licensed for automated, scripted, headless or programmatic access of any kind. For example, using a script or bot to iterate through maps to bulk-generate or bulk-collect maps is strictly prohibited and constitutes a material breach of these terms. We may apply rate limits, throttle access, suspend or terminate accounts, and pursue other remedies in response to suspected automated use.

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code
• Use bots, scripts, scrapers, headless browsers or other automated systems to access, generate, export, or otherwise interact with the Service, except where we have given prior written permission
• Resell or redistribute the Service itself
• Create content that is illegal, harmful, or infringes others' rights
• Use generated maps, platform assets, or platform data to train machine learning models or artificial intelligence algorithms

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

We do not guarantee that:

• The Service will be uninterrupted or error-free
• Defects will be corrected
• The Service will meet your specific requirements
• Your data will never be lost (please maintain your own backups)

Worlds saved by Guest and Explorer accounts are stored locally within your browser. They may be lost if you clear browser storage, use private or incognito mode, switch browsers or devices, or if your browser otherwise removes site data. Cloud storage that synchronises your worlds across devices is available with the Archmage tier.

8. Limitation of Liability

Our total liability for any claim arising from these terms or the Service shall not exceed the greater of:

• The amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or
• $100 AUD

Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of liability for certain damages. In such cases, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any guarantee, right, or remedy conferred by the Australian Consumer Law.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator of MapMage (RPGScience) from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

• Your use of the Service
• Your violation of these terms
• Your violation of any third-party rights
• Content you create or share using the Service

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Upon termination:

• Your right to use the Service ceases immediately
• We may delete your account and associated data
• Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will remain in effect

You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us.

11. Governing Law and Disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes arising from these terms or the Service shall be resolved through:

• Good faith negotiation between the parties
• If unresolved, mediation in New South Wales, Australia
• If still unresolved, the courts of New South Wales, Australia

You agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of these courts.

12. International Users

The Service is operated from Australia. If you access the Service from outside Australia, you do so at your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local laws. We make no representation that the Service is appropriate or available for use in any particular location.

13. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

14. Entire Agreement

These Terms of Service, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and RPGScience regarding the Service.
